It's Not About Business, It's About Life!
Description: Presented by Kent J. Thiry Chairman, CEO of DaVita Inc. Mr. Thiry will speak about the never-ending struggle in the workplace to create and sustain unusually consistent values-based decision-making. He will share thoughts and ideas on ways to create differentially healthy work communities – how to move from rhetoric to reality, from high level pitter patter to pervasive and sustainable practices. Kent Thiry has been Chairman and CEO of DaVita Inc. since 1999. DaVita is the largest independent provider of dialysis services in the United States for patients suffering from chronic kidney failure. Under Mr. Thiry’s leadership, DaVita has seen nine straight years of improved clinical outcomes. He turned the company’s financial situation from near bankruptcy to today’s standing of revenues topping at approximately $6 billion. Mr. Thiry earned his BA in Political Science with Distinction and Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University. Later he earned an MBA with Honors from Harvard Business School.

Info Session: Networking Workshop with Storm Glor
Description: In terms of career preparation, we’ve always heard that the perfect complement to WHAT you know is WHO you know. While a great education can provide the former, successful networking skills are key to obtaining the latter. Technology has perhaps made the art of networking more “social”, but at the same time more challenging. In this presentation we’ll cover basic and emerging principles, philosophies, and techniques behind making “who you know” an asset in your career planning. Separately Together: A New Path to Healthy Hospital-Physician Relations
Description: University of Colorado Denver Business School Invites you to attend a Rutt Bridges Seminar Series Lecture: Separately Together: A New Path to Healthy Hospital-Physician Relations Presented by Edward J. O'Connor and C. Marlena Fiol, Mehalchin Term Professor Professors of Health Administration, Business School University of Colorado Denver Too often physicians and hospital administrators are locked in a lose-lose battle with no apparent way out. Despite a proliferation of strategies for mastering physician-hospital collaboration, we have made little progress in our efforts to improve those relations. Clearly a new approach is needed to reduce the tensions between physicians and administrators and unite them in a common cause. This presentation offers an uncommon perspective on hospital-physician relations, based on evidence from social science research, and on practical experiences from healthcare as well as from other diverse arenas (e.g., international diplomacy and corporate alliances): To bring together groups locked in intractable conflicts, you must first pull them apart and strengthen them separately. Based upon their recent book (Separately Together: A New Path to Healthy Hospital-Physician Relations) and articles, Drs. Fiol and O'Connor will describe the four phases of the PAR (Physician-Administrator Relations) Process for moving from intractable conflicts to enduring collaboration between hospital administrators and physicians. After explaining each phase, they will discuss how to anticipate resistance to the process and move through the roadblocks. In addition, they will provide example assessment tools as well as intervention exercises for applying the PAR Process in your organization.
