The University of Colorado Denver Employee Relations and Training unit is responsible for the design and delivery of training and development programs.
New Employee Orientation

Offered each Wednesday except the last Wednesday of the month at the Anschutz Medical Campus, and the first Thursday of the month at the Downtown Campus.

Mandatory Training for Supervisors of Classified Staff
Classes included: Performance Management, Preventing Sexual Harassment, and State Personnel Rules Training.
Preventing Sexual Harassment
Offered both at the Anschutz Medical Campus and periodically at the Downtown Campus. This class is intended for all permanent employees.
Performance Management Training
Offered every other month on the last Wednesday of the month at the Anschutz Medical Campus and periodically at the Downtown Campus as needed. This class is intended for supervisors of classified employees and classified staff.

Writing Performance Goals Training Class
To understand the importance of clearly defined and well written performance expectations and to teach supervisors the elements of a concise, well written goal/objective.
Microsoft Office Computer Training
Courses offered this fiscal year include Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. All permanent University of Colorado Denver employees are eligible to attend.
University Leadership Development Institute (ULDI)
The University of Colorado Denver Human Resources office partners with ULDI to offer a variety of professional development training opportunities for supervisors. Online training is available on a wide variety of topics.

Provides supervisors and employees with an understanding of rules that affect the day-to-day management of classified employees. Included are discussions regarding compensation, leave management, performance management, and progressive discipline. 1/2 day to full day

Search Committee Training
Mandatory training for Search Committee members. Training goals include building a highly qualified and diverse applicant pool. Available in classroom format (2 hours), or online (40 minutes).

Preventing Workplace Violence
Critical to preventing violence from happening in your workplace is recognizing the warning signs and behaviors that can lead to it. This session provides understanding of the many forms those warning signs can take and also the situations that can spawn them. Learn how to assess those indicators and how to appropriately respond to a crisis situation. 2 hours

Teambuilding
An important key in working together successfully as a team is to recognize your co-workers' different behavioral styles and motivators and move toward their appreciation. This session lays out four different primary behavior types and how to recognize, improve communications with and motivate each of them. In this 1/2 day session, you will learn:
- To predict likely trends in individual's behaviors
- Adaptive behaviors to deal with conflict more effectively
- To structure an environment for maximum productivity and teamwork

Progressive Discipline
The goal of any manager is to improve employee performance. Reinforce your ability to communicate job-related expectations to your employees and assist them in understanding that a performance issue or opportunity for improvement exists, as well as the consequences for continuing unacceptable behavior or performance. This session is designed to help you get your employees on the path to effectively contributing to the success of your operation through progressively formal communication. Should an employee be unable or unwilling to improve their performance, you will understand the appropriate documentation required for a fair termination. 1/2 day

Managing Leave for Classified and Exempt Professional/Faculty Positions
Classified Staff Leave Workshop
Includes an in depth look at classified leave rules as elicited in Chapter 5 of the Department of Personnel Board Rules and Personnel Director’s Administrative Procedures. The rules and policies will be explained in layman’s terms with on the job type examples.
The course will cover all types of leave including annual, sick, FMLA, Short Term Disability (STD), injury (worker’s compensation), holiday, bereavement, military, jury, and administrative. 2 hours

Includes an in depth look at University of Colorado leave policies as elicited in Policy 11 of the Board of Regent’s Administrative Procedures. The policies will be explained in layman’s terms with on the job type examples.

- A method of communicating performance expectations to your employees
- Creative performance measurement techniques
- Simple documentation processes

Class materials: Participants must bring a current copy of a performance plan for one of their direct reports.

The 2007-2008 fiscal year set of Microsoft Office training classes has now ended. Discussions on the 2008-2009 fiscal year set of classes will be held sometime in July or August. If we decide to hold classes again, they will not commence until at least October. In the meantime, you may also explore the option of taking online tutorials through SkillPort or site-based courses with the State of Colorado Department of Personnel & Administration.

(You can display your 9th & Colorado Blvd or Downtown Campus parking pass in your window and park in these lots free of charge)
- Georgetown Lot, on the northeast corner of 19th Ave. and Uvalda Ct.
- Julesburg Lot, on the northwest corner of 17th Place and Victor St.
- Ignacio Lot, on 19th Ave. north of Building 500
- Cheyenne Wells Lot, on the north side of 17th Place between Racine and Revere Streets.
If you do not have a University of Colorado Denver parking permit yet (for any of the UC Denver campuses) you will need to park in Visitor Parking only. The lots we recommend for orientation purposes are Ignacio or Georgetown. Parking in these lots costs $5 a day (cash only, no large bills).
Note: For problems with the ticket booths, or with parking in general, the Parking & Transportation Office is located across from the Information Desk on the ground floor of the Administration Building (Building #500) or can be reached by phone at 303-724-2555.
